Student Placement 2012/2013

Every year at DEMAND we look for a small number of enthusiastic student designers to join our teams in Hertfordshire and Yorkshire for a years work experience. This placement scheme has run very successfully for many years, has provided valuable experience for young designers and has allowed them to have a taster of work in a professional environment.

We are pleased to announce that the successful candidate for the 2011/2012 placement is Lynnette Smith.

We shall open applications for the following academic year in January 2012.

We would prefer applications come to us via universities, but where this is not possible, please send applications direct to info@demand.org.uk

Modern Apprenticeship

DEMAND’s craftsmen are very skilled and have many years of experience in industry. Unfortunately many of the industries in which they learned their craft have now long gone. Local firms such as Rolls Royce and Marconi closed down many years ago and DEMAND finds it increasingly difficult to find a replacement craftman when one leaves due to retirement. To keep the skills alive , DEMAND has begun to recruit apprentices in the work shop. The aim is for the few remaining craftsmen to pass on their skills and knowledge before they reach retirement age. In this way, a new generation of craftsmen will emerge to continue our work.

The ‘Unite Foundation’ recognises the importance of keeping manufacturing skills alive and has generously donated funds to help us achieve this through 2010/2011.

Through this support we are pleased to announce that the successful candidate for the next DEMAND apprenticeship is George Fox.

George will commence his training, at our Hertfordshire site, in early August 2010.
