DEMAND

An Overview

DEMAND transforms the lives of disabled people by designing and manufacturing equipment where no “off the shelf” product is available. This equipment enables users to achieve everyday tasks, to participate in sport and leisure activities and to speed recovery from disabling injuries.

We recognise that every individual has their own specific requirements and tailor the equipment to meet them. We supply the equipment free of charge to individuals (though we always welcome a donation!) but charge Health and Social Services, or Private and Public Organisations for the work we do.

The History of DEMAND

DEMAND was founded in 1980 by Lady Renton, following personal experience of the difficulties encountered in finding equipment to make the lives of disabled people easier and more pleasant. Early links with the London College of Furniture (now London Metropolitan University) have been maintained through several site changes and the charity found a permanent home at the Old Chapel, in Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire, in 1999. Once in these premises the charity has focussed on helping as many disabled people as possible and in 2006 a second site was opened in Brockholes in Yorkshire. With Abbots Langley serving the South of England and Brockholes the North, we can now help more disabled people than ever before. For more information about DEMAND please visit the “What We Do” page or call one of our help lines:

We are only able to provide equipment thanks to donations that cover 80% of our costs, the balance coming from equipment sales and refurbishments (see our sales site for more information – click on the button below).
